Jonas Brothers “We Are the World: 25 Years For Haiti”

The other day, the Jonas Brothers took part in the “We Are the World: 25 Years For Haiti” campaign, in which many singers and musical artists from all over the world sang a remake of the old benefit song.

Twenty-five years after the all-star recording of “We Are the World” became a signature moment in celebrity altruism and pop-music history, a new collective of stars came together Monday at the same Hollywood recording studio to record a new version for Haiti earthquake relief.

Where else would 83-year-old Tony Bennett sing in unison with 15-year-old Justin Bieber? Emphasizing the cross-generational representation, the choir featured two Beach Boys (Brian Wilson and Al Jardine) and three Jonas Brothers (Nick, Joe and Kevin).

Some newly minted stars, such as Zac Brown, whose band won the best new artist Grammy on Sunday, seemed a bit wide-eyed to be milling in the sweltering recording room with the likes of Carlos Santana, who recorded a searing guitar solo for the single early in the six-hour session.

“It’s like standing in the classic records section at the Turtles music store looking at all the covers,” Brown said. “It’s ridiculous and it’s wonderful and for a good cause.”

Other performers included Pink, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Usher, Akon, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Toni Braxton, Snoop Dogg and Josh Groban.

Here is a nice article about Nick’s solo project, Nick Jonas & The Administration, from MTV Buzzworthy!

We’re not even a week into the year 2010, but the new year is already proving to be a good one to Nick Jonas. The buzz on his upcoming album, Nick Jonas & The Administration’s Who I Am, out February 2, is only getting stronger. Nick Jonas & The Administration’s shows, with soloist Diane Birch, are winning over critics for Nick’s solo material and in-the-know covers (Kings Of Leon!). And his brand-new video, “Who I Am,” is positioning him as a formidable solo act and the next John Mayer.

So it’s almost unfair that Nick Jonas has already accomplished ALL of that — on top of BEING A JONAS BROTHER! — while looking as good as he does in these brand-new MTV photos taken when he stopped by to tell us five secrets of Nick Jonas & The Administration. Thankfully, Nick (like any good president), is an excellent multitasker.

Keeping Up With The Jonas Brothers

Say what you want about the Jo Bros – as long as you’re prepared for the consequences, eh Russell? – but they’ve packed a hell of a lot into their tender years. The teen-pop trio, who range in age from 17 to 22, have already released four albums, shot a couple of Disney Channel movies and even set up their own charitable foundation. We hooked up with the boys – probably the politest popstars ever to fill DS’s dictaphone – as they wrapped up their latest world tour.

Is it hard keeping the fans at bay when you’re on tour?
Joe: “Well, we’ve had fans that have successfully gotten into our dressing rooms, but we have a pretty good security team that will annihilate if necessary haha!”
Kevin: “Our fans are normally kinda sweet and just want to take a picture or something. No one’s really tried to kill us or anything… yet! We’ve never had a ninja come and attack us from the ceiling or anything like that.”

What’s the strangest thing you’ve been given by a fan?
Joe: “The craziest thing we’ve ever been given is definitely a dead shark.”
Nick: “It wasn’t a real big shark though. It was only a baby shark but they’d preserved it in this tube for us. That was odd.”
Kevin: “We’re still trying to figure out how they actually went about buying a dead shark. I mean, is there such website as Buyadeadshark.com?”
Nick: “They didn’t even leave a note explaining. It was just: ‘Here’s a dead shark’.”

What do you tend to do when you come off stage?
Nick: “We’re usually wide awake after a show – as long as it’s gone great, anyway.”
Kevin: “Yeah, we normally wanna stay up and hang out for as long as possible. If we’re driving to our next show, we’ll stay up and watch movies, but if we’re staying in the city that night, we try and do something fun with our band like go for dinner.”

Have you started thinking about album number five yet?
Kevin: “We’ve started working a little bit on some songs, but we haven’t started in the sense of, ‘Oh wow, we need to write another album right now’. We’ve released four albums in a short space of time so I think now’s the right time to do some personal things for a while and then continue back on with the Jonas Brothers.”

You’ve released an album for a summer for the last four summers. Is the plan to make it five in a row?
Joe: “I don’t know if that’s the plan right now, but you never know with us. We might just say, ‘OK! Let’s go with another album!’ We really don’t know yet.”
Kevin: “Writing-wise, I’d love to be really honest on the next album. I’d love to be so honest it might almost scare people. Musically, I think it’s going to be something new and something no one’s ever heard from us before.”

You’ve already collaborated with Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus, but which female popstar’s next on your wish list?
Nick: “Celine Dion. She’s amazing. I like her song ‘A New Day Has Come’ the best. That or the one from Titanic.”
Joe: “And I love her version of that Roy Orbison song, ‘I Drove All Night’.”
Kevin: “Yeah, she’s got the best voice ever. Working with a legend like her would be a real honour.”

Given the age gap, would it not be a bit like working with your mum?
Kevin: “Actually, I think her presence is so incredible and so passionate that it wouldn’t even matter. Her voice and her artistry would just cut through it all.”

Joe, you’ve recently been a guest judge on American Idol How was that?
Joe: “Awesome. I shot it in Texas during our summer tour and it should be coming out in January or February. I saw about 30 different people audition and some of them were so terrible it was just comical! But some of them were just frighteningly talented. I was like, ‘Wow, I could actually be watching the next American Idol‘. I can’t wait to see the episode back actually.”

Was Simon Cowell in a good mood that day?
Joe: “Simon was awesome! I mean, he’s honest, but he’s usually right. He actually invited us to play on The X Factor next time we’re in the UK, but we’re a bit busy this time. Hopefully we can make it happen next time around.”

And Nick, you’ve got a side-project coming out: Nick Jonas and the Administration. What can you tell us about that?
Nick: “Yeah, I’m very excited for it! I recorded it back in April with a bunch of amazing musicians that we’ve all worked with in the past – some of them are from Prince’s band, The New Power Generation. It’s definitely got a different sound to a Jonas Brothers record. It’s my roots as an artist and as a musician and my hope is that people listen to the record with unbiased ears.”
Kevin: “It’s really exciting for us to do own our individual things – just like anybody would, you know? But the band will always be the band and we’ll always be doing things together.”

Finally, what music are you listening to at the moment?
Nick: “Actually, this might surprise you, but we really like Frankmusik.”
Kevin: “We liked his stuff before he was big actually. We heard about him years ago when he first started putting stuff on the internet. His songs ‘3 Little Words’ and ‘Girlfriend’ are just awesome.”
